2. Sleeping in Class Zzzzzz !!!

The 2nd most common activity … We sleep like ducks in class … Sleep can come anytime . It can come anytime. Sleep in morning. Sleep before noon. But the most favorite time of sleeping for all dental students is after lunch. It’s always an effort not to sleep in post lunch theory classes.

3. Running to get the signatures

Remember these pictures ?

How we all used to slog day and night to finish wax carvings, anatomy and histology slide diagrams. And when we show it to staffs … they say …

    Why this portion is pink ? It should be blue ” REPEAT “

What is this carving ? Looks like banana ” REPEAT “

The distal root is slightly thin … ” REPEAT “

We Used to be so scared of this word REPEAT. It had the power to spoil your whole day 😀

4.How Much Impression Material You Wasted ?

Now its the time to tell the truth. You have to admit the secrete you have been hiding till today !!!

What are we talking about . This :

When I first entered the clinicals in 3rd year … we were taught how to take impression. In my college we were allowed to use alginate freely to learn how to take impressions. And We did learn. I still don’t know how many packets of alginate me and my friends used  and wasted ! Each impression was taken multiple times on patients until it was perfect : ) … Thanks to the patients too 😀

So how much you wasted ? 😀

5. Teeth Setting In Summer

One thing all Dental Students did that can never be forgotten – Sitting in prosthodontics lab and finishing a complete teeth setting. During my BDS days we had to finish 5 complete teeth sets. It will start with impression mold, beading & boxing, wax up, special tray, occlusal rims, jaw relation, teeth setting & finally curing and polishing. Phew !!!!

Summer & sitting near Bunsen burner … We were sweating like pigs : (

But that’s not all … Some times even after all the hard work … proper flasking and curing the acrylic … the denture used to come like this porosity and holes. That was so frustrating.  But the happiness when we got a perfectly cured denture was Epic … And we will be showing it off to everybody … Like we were in love with it.

6. Face-booking in lecture and

practical classes & Searching answers in google

Face – booking This might be one of the most busy activity in dental colleges. It can  happen any where and any time … In theory class … In practical class … In prostho lab … Sit in the last bench and do all you want.

Since the evolution of pocket size smart phones and internet data pack, time passing in class has become so easy. We all have used Google to look up answers in class exams or to find career options during classes. Long live Internet … Ha Ha !!!

7. Front Bencher V/S Back Bencher

This is an untold tussle that has been going on for years in all colleges between every students … The War between the front benchers and back benchers 🙂 … the battle is still on with no winner yet.

But in the final exams both front & backbenchers do well. Talent is not restricted to front or back bench.

 

8. Gossiping In Canteen During & After College

 

This was & is still the best activity in all the years of Dental College. After a whole day of college work, clinical, patients & lectures … college canteen is the place where dental students chill out. This is the place where friends bonded. Every one will tell their problem, frustrations, which staff scolded them and get some weird solutions to it 🙂 … Hanging out with friends in the canteen is one of the things that we miss the most after dental graduation.

Canteen + Food + Friends = Memories

 

That’s one activity you will remember most even after years of passing.

9. Unforgettable Days In Hostel 

All the dental students who are & were in hostel can never forget the awesome hostel days. Words cannot describe the excitement of all the years in hostel. Hostel is the place where we entered  as young boy/girl to the world of dentistry. And all the years in hostel shape our personality. Its said that few years in hostel is the best place for youngster to learn about life. And of course hostel is fun. Time spent with friends in hostel are some of the best memories ever. Let me explain you with some pics rather than words …

10.Love In College

As they say love by chance … its absolutely true . One has no control over it. Its one of the unpredictable action of a student life. Getting love, getting heartbreak its all part and parcel of life.

Many students in the years of dental college go through it.

But One word of caution to all boys and girl … Don’t be disheartened in case of love failure. You got to remember one thing Love can only work out in long term with commitment and marriage. But commitment and marriage are many times affected by circumstances that become too much for you to control. So even if heart breaks … then take your time. Be with friends and family. Don’t take any foolish drastic steps.

With time things will settle down and you will move forward in life.

11. Last Week Study Before Final Exams

Now, we all know that we should study through out the year. But we Don’t 😀 . Its a very common thing. And suddenly in fun and more fun one year goes by and out of no where final exams arrive.

Students react to exam dates as if they never expected there will be exams at the year end 😀

Students  start praying ” God … Please Help me Pass the Exam “

I have done it. Many Others have done it & many more will do it. Yes I admit ” I have faked signatures of my staff in Practical Records and Histology Records. It was not intentional but it was the question of survival 🙂

Then starts the last week study 😀 …

NO eating, NO sleeping … Just studies and more studies 😀

Best Memory – Changing Someone”s Smile

12. Changing Some Ones Life & Smile

Dentistry gives us the power to change some one’s life. We have the knowledge and power to give some one a perfect smile in literal sense … who is not having a smile. We can also heal someone’s pain by treating many aspects of dental problems.

As dental students … we can have loads of fun through out student days but you all will agree with one thing : Nothing gives us more satisfaction and happiness than reducing someone’s pain and giving them the smile back. The thanks and blessings that the patients give after a proper treatment gives the dental students immense happiness.

And that perhaps is the greatest activity by a dental student in his student days.

Happiness On A Good Treatment is just similar to the happiness we used to feel when as kids we used to get gifts from parents.

The years of  college are filled with many such activities that make our college life memorable. Gives us memories. Memories that last a life time. We just tried to recap some of the most common events and activities that happens in the life most of the dental students.
