Hi there … How u doing ?

My self Dr.Deb .
Your friendly neighborhood dentist & the reclusive editor at Dentalorg.Com

Umm … As it goes am still a student. Doing my MDS getting my daily dose of kicks and bumps from the college. Today specially was very tough … Or you can say epic with epic proportion of good old college dose … Phew !!!

I started my journey in dentistry in the year 2004. Fresh out of 12th and raring to make a place in this world. All pumped up and ready to fight for my turf in this big world.

When you are eighteen, just out of school, fresh in to a professional college … there are a millions of hopes and dreams in heart.

Simply put, most of us are just shielded from all the hard ships of life by our parents till now. And in dental college we are finally exposed to many aspects of life that shape us emotionally.

BDS it self was a roller coaster ride. It starts slowly. And starts getting faster n faster. We make friends, have our share of fights, some fall in love, gather in canteen after college. Then there are exams, clinical quotas, assignments … list is endless.

Of many such instances, I can confess few things that makes my lips smile on thinking

Faking signatures on records & oral path records. He he … I know it’s not a correct thing to do , but all of us have done it at some point. And I can still remember the chill I felt on my back when I was showing my OP record to mam and I had forged 5 signs. Perfect foolishness. But escaped. Lol … Not a correct thing but some how it has become a fond memory.

Most common nostalgic moments for any BDS student :

•Finishing anatomy slides and then oral path slides.

•Making drugs in mortar & pestle

•Running around to finish the preclinical quotas, teeth setting … Phew and that too in summer.

•Final year hopping to all departments to complete the work in all the 7 departments.

•Fighting with friends for instruments,cases.

•Taking part in college annual functions, sports, dance, fashion show & my personal favorite live music shows.

And so many more moments. Moments that seemed trivial that time but as time passes they become memories.

Frankly speaking days of BDS are fast and create lot of happy memories. All of us pick some hobbies during that time. I took to guitar and web designing.

The honeymoon gets disturbed usually in the last phase of internship. That’s the time when we see our friends who are in the engineering stream getting campus placements with a starting package of 30 K. And that’s the time many of us are working in a seniors clinic for a sum of 1000 bucks. And that’s the time we start getting tension for our future. That sense of urgency comes. What’s next ? How many more years before a stable job.

I think that’s the time, around when many of us start saying ” BDS KARKE PHANS GAYA ” Every thing just starts looking negative.

But fact is every problem has a solution. If your problem is “What after BDS” ?Then you can see this article WHAT AFTER BDS ?

Any ways there is no reason to get disheartened. Talk with people you are close to. After discussions with parents some solution will come out . For example I decided to prepare for MDS exams , few of my other friends joined pharm companies, some started preparing for civil service exams. Luckily for me and my set of friends things fell in place. I got through MDS exams. Two of my friends have moved ahead in the company management. The one who prepared for state civil service got through exams and now is class I income tax officer.

So things always work out for career in some way. As for me I started my MDS session and believe me it’s not even half fun as BDS days.

Thing to understand here is that … In all the years of studying dentistry BDS & MDS we should not start thinking dentistry as life itself. Life is about so much more. It’s a journey with so much more to do.

Been a journey from BDS to MDS. And am thankful to God for all the opportunities & experience. Now am in the final year of my MDS … Fighting through case quotas, seminars , big heart break , pain , making music . And life rolls on.

I know it’s a random abstract piece of article. And here am not telling you how you should prepare for exams or how you should study. Every body has their own way. I just want to say , if you consider life as a whole , then BDS / MDS is just a small part of it. Explore the life in all aspects. Don’t worry too much about exams, MDS, dental career etc . Just move with the flow. Fill your heart with all the love and respect for every one and every body in your life . Thank god for all you have and also for all that you are going to have. Say thanks for the special people who have given you love and time, even if they are not in your life anymore. Acceptance, love, understanding will bring peace. And then you can set forth for the journey of life and god bless all.

I guess I should get back to my books … Mind moves to some one special who has gone far … Heart pains … But have things to do …

And all my dental friends & students, please stop worrying too much about dentistry, MDS, exams, NEET… There’s lot more to life. Just believe that God will shower with all the happiness.

Well it’s time for me to get back to my study desk. Back to reading Carranza :/

And my dear friends ” Hakuna Matata” …

This article will give you a complete idea about all the behind the scene things about NEET.

A must read for any Socially thinking n understanding dental student.

Do give your comments after u finish reading.

*********************************
The marriage of NEET & Deemed Private Colleges
*********************************

“THE TRUTH BEHIND THE TRUTH”

NEET interim judgement was given yesterday. Before starting the main article here’s a summary of what the Supreme Court said :

SUPREME COURT 2013 : INTERIM ORDERS :

1. NEET-PG 2012 results can be declared

2. Entrances conducted by all private colleges , deemed universities can be declared

3. FInal Verdict of NEET-PG 2012 will be given only on JULY 4 , 2013

Implications

1. NEET-PG 2012 results will be considered as ALL INDIA results

2. TNPGMEE results will be released shortly. 50 % of Tamil Nadu quota seats will be filled throught TNPGMEE

3. All minority institutions and private deemed universities can conduct their own exams for this year.

Now coming to the main article …

Got to hear this from many sources …

A total of approx 1000 crores were exchanged to give the NEET JUDGEMENT in favour of Deemed Medical & Dental universities for admissions in to PG/MDS courses.

” Na baap bada na Bahiya … The whole thing is that Sabse bada rupiya … ”

But can we blame the colleges ???

We can’t blame the colleges completely. As a student you must be aware of all the inside things & read on this article with an open mind to realize the truth behind the truth. It does cost a fortune to run the colleges. And colleges are never owned by a single person. Many rich people come together ( some with intention to give back to society & some with the intention to invest the excess cash they have) & pool the money in the name of a trust , gather all the necessary approvals , lands & finally make a college.

Then they wait for the college to be viable financially. It does take a lot of time & patience.

And finally when the college makes a name and it becomes financially viable after the passing out of 2 to 3 batches … Then it’s the time to take their share of profit every year or month depending on how much each one has invested.

So NEET in real sense was an obstacle in the way. And it took lot of money obviously for the colleges to get the favourable judgement.

How NEET will affect the colleges ??? !!!

NEET means that the High cost PG colleges will lose the control over their seats. They won’t be in control anymore as to who should get the admission.

That control over the PG/MDS seats admission is the main point of power !

How so !!!! ???

India is a country of exponentially increasing population. Around 40 % of the population is in the age group of 20 to 35 years – the youth who are actively fighting to make a career and higher studies in the Indian society. There is a mad rush in all the education streams.

And especially if you are a dental or medical student this mad rush is further enhanced because of higher number of dental graduates and less than 1/4 th of MDS seats.

So in a such a situation the CONTROL the deemed colleges have over their seats is so crucial. Students are so desperate to get a seat that many parents willingly or unwillingly agree to pay huge sums of Money to secure a MDS seat for their child. Please note this money that the parents pay , is not a waste money. This is the money that goes in to paying for all the modern equipments, salary to all the top n famous staffs , all sorts of govt charges n bills & finally the percentage of profit to all the investors. You see it’s not easy running the college.

NEET was targeting this control that the colleges have. If the colleges lose this control then they are in a position to lose crores of money that is in some way essential for the survival of the college. So, NEET in a way is going to become a block for the PROFITABILITY , SURVIVABILITY & FEASIBILITY of all the high maintainable Deemed Private Colleges.

At the same time many students who can’t afford to pay so much and completely rely on their entrance exam merit to get a MDS seat end up feeling cheated. They get frustrated with the system and feel money is being given preference over talent.

If u have read with utmost understanding till now …

Then whom to blame for all this situation ?

Can there ever be a marriage between NEET and Pg exams / seats ?

One point is clear … we can’t blame the students, whether management or entrance aspirants. Both are just trying to find a way and survive this mad race and fighting.

So who should be responsible ? Of course the govt. Higher education is a matter of national development and the right of all the students. Govt from long back should have taken care of proper distribution and regulation of seats n funds between all colleges ( govt n private) . Some times it’s just acting too late.

NEET is an attempt by the govt to control the things , but it’s a very late approach.

Frankly speaking right now govt is not in a position to apply NEET forcefully , as the situation is no more simple. Many colleges all over India are now involved in the system & govt. won’t find it easy to simply force the NEET at this point of time .

And all this just adds to the tension of already tensed students. In fact students are no more students … They are like gladiators now fighting for their life. All these confusion could have been avoided by the govt. if proper thinking was given to it long time back.

3. All minority institutions and private deemed universities can conduct their own exams for this year.

So , what we can conclude from this interim judgement is that all the deemed universities can go on with their own exams this year. That means all the students who have most probably paid some money for the management seats will consider themselves safe.

Please note , the ruling clearly mentions minority and deemed colleges. But if a college is private but not deemed ( still under state medical board ) ; status for that is not clear yet.

And this is an interim judgement. Final judgement on 4th of July. But doesn’t seem there will be much difference in the final judgement.

Welcome to all the dental students . Your friendly neighborhood Dr.Deb is back . I bring to you yet another article on MDS / NEET Preparation by one of the most regular & sucessful writer on this topic . Read the article to know abt the most easy and often neglected 7 steps of MDS preparation.

Helllos

Well.. I am Back again. Your own Dr.Suresh Shenvi

It has been exactly 5 years since I was reading in KLE Dental college reading room. Life is sooo different now. Working as staff in the same institute makes you realize that time has changed so much. Students haveBIG BRAINS BUT NOT THE BIG DREAMS. Just kidding !

But Staff life surely has given me an opportunity to revisit my past. Well.. I was much more sincere and more dedicated and more goal oriented when I was a student. But the one fact always remains the same even today. LOST TIME NEVER COMES BACK

Well.. Its me here whose gonna revisit my my first blog which gave me a name in the entrance field. “HOW I PREPARED FOR MDS ENTRANCE DURING MY INTERNSHIP”

Here its me who is again trying to give you a blue print for the whole year preparation. Although my earlier blogs were very well written but I have realized that not many have the patience to read such a big blog. I do wonder that how can someone clear an entrance by reading whole year when they don’t have the patience to read a blog. I hope you all do visit my earlier blogs for complete idea of preparation which covers almost all aspects of the preparation. This blog does include all those important points which you need to know before you plan to start reading for entrance.

A good author always finds many critics. I am sure many wont like these advises. You all should know that THIS IS SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR INTERNS DONT HAVE MUCH IDEA AND END UP WASTING THEIR PRECIOUS 10 months for JUST NOTHING. My ultimate aim has been to inspire those who always hoped it as a dream. And those sincerely attend the internship , do find less time for preparation and not much guidance from anyone. Well.. this gonna help you a lot big time .. For those who have whole day or taking a break of year will also benefited from it. You can always modify it . You all are smart enough. I have no doubt in that

THE FIRST STEP- THE START

THE MOST DIFFICULT ASPECT IN STARTING ENTRANCE PREPARATION IS THE “START IT SELF”

The more time you waste in taking the first step.. the more chances that you going to loose the battle.

I am sure most of the college must have already completed the annuals. Infact this is the exact time when we started preparing for entrance.. SO FOR THOSE WHO THINK ITS TOO LATE??? ..THERE IS NO WRONG TIME TO DO RIGHT THING.

I have divided the next 10 months and have tried to allot time for each subject so that it gives you a clear vision and a goal. The time table has been framed keeping in mind of the brain of an average student and the brilliant one.. And I hope this helps you.So here it goes.. APRIL to JANUARY AND YOUR TIME STARTS NOW

Difficult isn’t it?? .. I know.. But always remember that SUCCESS IS THE JOURNEY AND NOT THE DESTINATION.

I have given 7 days for each subject. But not all require the same time. So you can always cut short the days alloted to you. But its important that you keep a deadline for it. I personally finished the preparation of first reading in 2.5 months. and I prepared from March start. So its up to you how serious you are and HOW MUCH YOU ARE STRONG TO PUSH YOURSELF.. NOTHING IS EASY

All the seven steps for MDS preparation continues in the next page …

For many Indian & Asian students who have finished their Dental Graduation , going abroad to countries like USA & CANADA and settling there as a professional dentist , is a big dream .

ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY : ) … SHOW ME THE MONEY : )

But before venturing in to any such journey a clear cut & definite idea about all the rules , regulations and finances is very necessary . If one enters such a venture without proper planning & resources , it can cause lot of tensions .

One of the main information that a candidate needs to know is …

HOW MUCH IT COSTS TO SETTLE IN USA & CANADA AS A DENTIST

So your friendly neighborhood Dr.Deb have gathered some information in this regard . Please note that all these are collected informations and the actual costs might vary . The datas are just an estimation that past students have given . For the exact costs that do keep varying as per the changes in currency , do contact the embassy of your country . The estimations given here are in terms of INDIAN RUPEES . Please estimate the values as per the currency of your country .

1) Dentistry in USA:

USA still and will remain the best country for foreign dental graduates. With India being the center of attraction in US economy, they need India as business partner more than ever before.

The singlemost point which comes to our mind when we plan to go to USA is whether my BDS is a recognized degree or not. As per American Dental Association (ADA), BDS degree in India is classified as a Dental Degree from a regionally accredited university. That means, all people who have BDS degree can take admission in Advanced Standing Program for International Dental Graduates leading to DDS/DMD degree. So, to state that your BDS is not recognized or your BDS has gone waste is not true. They do consider you dentists but from a regionally accredited program. This classification applies even to all European graduates also.

2) Dentistry in Canada:

Now you can avail of beneficial immigration rules and recent Canadian Dental Board Update thereby allowing FOREIGN DENTAL GRADUATES to Practice in Canada without DDS. Just an amazing offer of a lifetime. Register at our website with complete contact details and we’ll surely guide you in your dreams of making it big in Canada.

ADMISSION PROCESS for DDS: ( along with estimated finance )

Advanced Standing Program for International Dentists leading to DDS/DMD:

1) You need your BDS or MDS degree

2) Please have a Visa or Mastercard International Credit Card by this stage, otherwise you are just delaying your long application process by going to banks and wasting your time unnecessarily. Many universities and ADA accepts only Credit card. So, have one as soon as possible.

3) At this stage, you need to get your Transcript Evaluation done. The cost of evaluation is either USD 150 depending upon your current status and aggregate in four years of dentistry program in India.

PERSONAL STATEMENT AND DENTAL EXPERIENCE Please provide dental education experiences, dental related activities, and professional goals typewritten on the separate form provided in the application packet.

*DENTAL DEGREE A notarized copy of the foreign dental degree of the applicant must be submitted directly to the Desired college office. If in a language other than English the dental degree must be accompanied by a notarized translation from a bonafied U.S. translator.

* OFFICIAL COURSE-BY-COURSE DENTAL SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT EVALUATION Only an originalEducational Credential Evaluators (ECE) course-by-course evaluation of the applicant’s dental school transcript will be accepted. Please make sure the document submitted is “Course-by Course Evaluation” and is issued directly to the to the desired college office from ECE. A minimum U.S. GPA of 2.5 or above is required of all applicants.

* OFFICIAL SCHOOL CERTIFIED TRANSCRIPT An official school certified copy of the applicant’s dental school transcript must be sent directly from the applicant’s foreign dental school to the desired college office. A U.S. notarized photocopy of the applicant’s foreign dental school transcript is not an acceptable substitute. The official school certified transcripts and all application documents become the property of the desired college and are not returnable.

4) You need to take your National Dental Board Examination (NBDE) Part 1 examination. This examination is conducted throughout the year across various centers in USA/Canada and costs $345. This exam in fully computerized and contains 400 MCQ’s with no negative marking.

For admissions, one needs greater than 85 percentile score. The more the score, the better it is.

5) Obtaining US Visa is the biggest hurdle in your American dreams. Initially you will go on a Visitors Visa (B1/B2) visa to USA. The cost of this visa is Rs 9000 at this moment.

6) Other thing you need to take is TOEFL iBT (costing US $170). Remember, TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years time while NBDE scores have 5 years validity. One should score 100 and above in TOEFL iBt as this would make you eligibile for all universities.

7) Now if you have scored well in Part 1 and TOEFL iBT, you are ready for applications to various universities. The admissions are dependent upon a number of variables:

a) NBDE Part 1 score

b) TOEFL iBT score

c) GPA (Grade Point Average)

d) 3 Letters of Recommendation

e) A solid and professional Career Statement or Statement of Purpose

f) Original Transcripts signed by Dean/Principal of your college/university

g) Application submission

h) Personal Interviews

i) Resume

J) Paper/Poster presentation
