Most of the time you will be asked to attend the Interview in the attendance of seasoned army officers , who will be observing every thing about you . So a good , neat and tidy appearance just before you enter the interview room is a must . The thing with a neat appearance is it exhibits that you are organized. It is better for you to keep a small pocket Comb and a neat and clean Handkerchief.
As we have brought out earlier, RAPID Fire questions are the order of the time .

It means you will be asked to answer a number of questions after listening to them just once. Please listen to the question carefully. If you have not understood the question then ask for the clarification. Try and answer the questions in the same sequence as put forth to you. Since the distance between you and the interviewing officer would be about 6 feet, you are expected to talk in a loud and clear voice. Take your time think and answer questions.

DO NOT TELL A LIE. DO NOT BLUFF. DO NOT SOUND POMPOUS OR OVERTLY ARROGANT . You will be caught.

Interviewing Officers are usually hold the Rank of Colonel or its higher rank in Army or equivalent ranks in Navy/Air Force. Here are some of the tips which you will find it useful while facing the Interviewing officer :

b)On entering the room wish the panel and do what they say.

c) Do not get over anxious. A minor degree of nervousness is expected from everyone.

f) Be natural and never convey extravagant ideas like ” I would die for my country” or ” The best profession is the Defense Forces “.

g) Do not lie or beat around the bush. If you are not sure of the answer say that you do not know. You are not going to be penalized for say it.

h) Be brief, loud and clear.
i) The major questions like Why do you want to join the Army/Navy/Air Force?. There are no perfect answer to this question. While answering it try to convey 4 or 5 facts such as:

i. Defence services offers a Challenge to a young person
ii. Merit is given due recognition in the Forces.
iii. I will get an opportunity to learn and experience the latest technological inventions.
iv. I like an out door life rather than a 10 to 5 desk job.
v. I will get an opportunity to mingle with all sorts of people and persons from different parts of the country.
vi. In my opinion the Uniformed forces offers reasonable pay and perks
vii. One of the most respected professions in Indian is that of a soldier.

j) Be truthful in stating your hobbies. be prepared to answer questions about it.
k) High light your achievement in sports, NCC and other extra curricular activities.
l) Current affairs be a regular reader of magazines and news paper.
m) When a situation is given to you think and answer be very specific and answer in the most practical way.

But before venturing in to any such journey a clear cut & definite idea about all the rules , regulations and finances is very necessary . If one enters such a venture without proper planning & resources , it can cause lot of tensions .

One of the main information that a candidate needs to know is …

HOW MUCH IT COSTS TO SETTLE IN USA & CANADA AS A DENTIST

So your friendly neighborhood Dr.Deb have gathered some information in this regard . Please note that all these are collected informations and the actual costs might vary . The datas are just an estimation that past students have given . For the exact costs that do keep varying as per the changes in currency , do contact the embassy of your country . The estimations given here are in terms of INDIAN RUPEES . Please estimate the values as per the currency of your country .

1) Dentistry in USA:

USA still and will remain the best country for foreign dental graduates. With India being the center of attraction in US economy, they need India as business partner more than ever before.

The singlemost point which comes to our mind when we plan to go to USA is whether my BDS is a recognized degree or not. As per American Dental Association (ADA), BDS degree in India is classified as a Dental Degree from a regionally accredited university. That means, all people who have BDS degree can take admission in Advanced Standing Program for International Dental Graduates leading to DDS/DMD degree. So, to state that your BDS is not recognized or your BDS has gone waste is not true. They do consider you dentists but from a regionally accredited program. This classification applies even to all European graduates also.

2) Dentistry in Canada:

Now you can avail of beneficial immigration rules and recent Canadian Dental Board Update thereby allowing FOREIGN DENTAL GRADUATES to Practice in Canada without DDS. Just an amazing offer of a lifetime. Register at our website with complete contact details and we’ll surely guide you in your dreams of making it big in Canada.

ADMISSION PROCESS for DDS: ( along with estimated finance )

Advanced Standing Program for International Dentists leading to DDS/DMD:

1) You need your BDS or MDS degree

2) Please have a Visa or Mastercard International Credit Card by this stage, otherwise you are just delaying your long application process by going to banks and wasting your time unnecessarily. Many universities and ADA accepts only Credit card. So, have one as soon as possible.

3) At this stage, you need to get your Transcript Evaluation done. The cost of evaluation is either USD 150 depending upon your current status and aggregate in four years of dentistry program in India.

PERSONAL STATEMENT AND DENTAL EXPERIENCE Please provide dental education experiences, dental related activities, and professional goals typewritten on the separate form provided in the application packet.

*DENTAL DEGREE A notarized copy of the foreign dental degree of the applicant must be submitted directly to the Desired college office. If in a language other than English the dental degree must be accompanied by a notarized translation from a bonafied U.S. translator.

* OFFICIAL COURSE-BY-COURSE DENTAL SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT EVALUATION Only an originalEducational Credential Evaluators (ECE) course-by-course evaluation of the applicant’s dental school transcript will be accepted. Please make sure the document submitted is “Course-by Course Evaluation” and is issued directly to the to the desired college office from ECE. A minimum U.S. GPA of 2.5 or above is required of all applicants.

* OFFICIAL SCHOOL CERTIFIED TRANSCRIPT An official school certified copy of the applicant’s dental school transcript must be sent directly from the applicant’s foreign dental school to the desired college office. A U.S. notarized photocopy of the applicant’s foreign dental school transcript is not an acceptable substitute. The official school certified transcripts and all application documents become the property of the desired college and are not returnable.

4) You need to take your National Dental Board Examination (NBDE) Part 1 examination. This examination is conducted throughout the year across various centers in USA/Canada and costs $345. This exam in fully computerized and contains 400 MCQ’s with no negative marking.

For admissions, one needs greater than 85 percentile score. The more the score, the better it is.

5) Obtaining US Visa is the biggest hurdle in your American dreams. Initially you will go on a Visitors Visa (B1/B2) visa to USA. The cost of this visa is Rs 9000 at this moment.

6) Other thing you need to take is TOEFL iBT (costing US $170). Remember, TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years time while NBDE scores have 5 years validity. One should score 100 and above in TOEFL iBt as this would make you eligibile for all universities.

7) Now if you have scored well in Part 1 and TOEFL iBT, you are ready for applications to various universities. The admissions are dependent upon a number of variables:

a) NBDE Part 1 score

b) TOEFL iBT score

c) GPA (Grade Point Average)

d) 3 Letters of Recommendation

e) A solid and professional Career Statement or Statement of Purpose

f) Original Transcripts signed by Dean/Principal of your college/university

g) Application submission

h) Personal Interviews

i) Resume

J) Paper/Poster presentation

8) Typically, yearly expenses are in the range of US $ 90,000 to 100,000 dollar.

Then, if you get admitted to DDS/DMD program, you will need a co-signer (can be a relative or a friend) who is either a US citizen or Green card holder for your Student loan.

Loans are very easy and long term like 15-20 years. The loan amount even covers your living expenses and if you have a spouse and children, they cover even that. So, a two year program will cost in INR 80 lacs to 95 lacs. The expenses covered includes all Tuition fees; Health insurance; Dental instruments/material expenses; laptop and its software charges; all lodging and boarding expenses including meals. No payments are required while you are in school. There is no prepayment penalty.

Repayment begins 6-9 months after you leave school, or when you get a job. You can have multiple co-signer’s also for a loan.

9) DENTISTS and SPECIALIST DOCTORS remain the most lucrative and best salaried profession.

10) On an average, a DDS graduate starting salary range from $ 120,000 to $ 1,40,000. As per ADA figures, annual average salary of a dentist across USA in 2006 was in excess on $300,000.

11) In 2005, 5 % Americans had an annual salary in excess of one lakh dollar or more. So, when you start your career in USA as a dentist, you straightaway belong to upper 5 % income group bracket in USA. That is a big reward you get for all pains and hardships associated with being a dentist.

12) Above all, US has a stable work permit in form of H1B followed by Green Card, and then US citizenship.

NOW THAT YOU HAVE BASIC IDEA ON THE FINANCE ASPECT , DO READ THE OTHER RELATED ARTICLES PROVIDING YOU VALUABLE INFOS . And remember always refer the USA / CANADIAN embassy of your country for the most UPDATED infos . Never pay any money to any third party who promises a smooth & cheaper procedure .

WELCOME TO THE MOST DARING & MOST INFORMATIVE ARTICLE ON WHAT AFTER BDS ???

By the time you finish reading this article you will have a more clearer idea as to what to do after BDS …

NO DENTAL COLLEGE WILL GIVE YOU THESE INFORMATIONS …

Informations collected from the experience of many past BDS students .

So Lets Start and Solve the Mystery of What After BDS ?

Before joining dentistry stream ,we are usually not aware of the difficulties that we are going to face . Most of us do this mistake of thinking that doing BDS ensures a smooth career with smooth and easy returns . By the time we finish our internship this dream breaks and we face the stark and hard reality . Every thing doesn’t look as rosy as we imagined.

For certain persons whose father and mother are already in this field things might be a little easy and different. But such cases are exception and if you are first time dentist in your family without any proper back up things can be a little difficult.

In this post lets go through some of the possibilities that lie ahead …

A ) The list is endless , but always remember to choose what u r comfortable with. The best course for an indian would be to do the PG courses in a good college and then invest in a nice furnished clinic or better still be a consultant in some clinics. That way u invest in solid returns.Initial setbacks are common. I know of a dentist who had virtually no good practice for years before he clicked and is one of the top endodontic consultant.

Now here’s the catch . Getting a govt MDS seat is not easy. It not only needs a great deal of hard work , sometimes two to three attempts to get through and there is always the risk of not getting through even after a lot of dedicated preparation.

Here are some of the best articles that will give you an idea on MDS preparation :

http://www.dentalorg.com/preparing-for-mds-entrance.html

http://www.dentalorg.com/mds-preparation-during-internship.html

http://www.dentalorg.com/race-for-mds-pg-entrance-preparation-part-ii-by-dr-gowri-shankar.html

But one got to take the chance. There is this second way to get into private colleges spending some bulk some of money . But some times it works out as people who can afford to pay get the degree faster and easier than others.

B) ACADEMIC LECTURE :

The most common idea that any body has is to to land in academic field as a lecturer …….if u r comfortable in teaching fields.

If u r undergraduate please dont expect high salaries!use it as a platform to learn and prepare for ur PG. Use the help of the aspirants and senior people! If u complete ur post graduation that is a sure shot since u can get sure salary every month irrespective of ur practice..and in a decade or so u can land as an asst. professor or professor and HOD in some college!

But here’s also there is a catch . There has been a steady increase in the number of PG in the recent past and the chances of getting a permanent opening in the college is getting slimmer and tighter.

C) GOVERNMENT SERVICE :

Govt. service is another option. In Tamil nadu,TNPSC exams are conducted with few years gap.so know what it is like in ur place.that way its good even if u can squeeze in just after ur UG.cuz u can do ur PG as a service candidate later …..so get the details..

D) GOING ABROAD :

Then there is always the idea to go ABROAD . In the past it was relatively easy to go and settle abroad. But at present if you are a dentist in INDIA and u wish to settle in Australia , USA , Canada or UK it is going to demand a lot of time , effort and finance. For example if you wish to go to US they need u to pass the national board dental exam (NBDE) step 1 and 2….and then u can pursue DDS….that would take a whole lot of time and money….not to mention the latest problems and difficulties in obtaining the US visa!and you r allowed only three attempts to clear the steps!

And even after doing all the hardships you somehow land up abroad, success wont come overnight . Its a foreign place with its own culture and own set of rules regarding every aspect of life thats very different from what you are used to in INDIA.

Its not about financial burden.

Its about wise investment, I mean it.

I would suggest that ypu dont put plans on US as of now for two reasons. The tests will be of difficult nature and u need to accustom urself to the practices there….like the drugs and legal issues!

And the cost u need to incur to attempt once the exam may be huge and its not wise unless we plan to settle there or you already have a solid back up like some relative and even then we cannot afford the loss if we fail.Test fees are huge by indian standards and just to attempt it you need lots of investment.

But of course if one does make it finally abroad as a good dentist then you can be one of the few ultra successful dentists, as unlike India , dentistry abroad is one of the most highest paid jobs . But in the end its you who have to decide and weigh the advantages v/s disadvantages of trying to settle in abroad , as the personal situation varies from one individual to other .

N.B >>> The details regarding the various informations for going abroad can be found here

Hi friends , your friendly neighborhood Dr.Deb is back : ) . For more regular updates do join our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/dentalorg

For all the BDS students all over India one question is becoming more and more worrisome now a days . The question of what after BDS ?

In many previous articles in the website various options after BDS have been discussed . If you haven’t read it yet , then have a look at one of the most read article on What After BDS ! by clicking in the box below .

http://www.dentalorg.com/career-options-after-bds.html

Yes the most common option that emerges out is MDS . But as we all know , its not so easy as it seems . Getting a Govt. seat is tough as it needs lot of hard work and seats are few . So there is no guarantee that you will definitely get a seat . Option of private colleges in not feasible for everyone as its a costly affair .

So in that case , the next most obvious option remains is to open a clinic . But a new dentist again faces problem here . Today its the the world of speciality treatment . Patients are becoming more and more aware of the various dental treatment modalities : Courtesy Google : )

And also in the dental field too the competition is increasing day by day . There is demand to know about newer treatment modalities like dental implants , lasers etc . So to move ahead in the market of dentistry , any dentist , must have the knowledge of these recent advances . But what if he / she is not able to MDS for some reason . Then how can he/she learn more about these modern treatments !

So in such a case DIPLOMA courses are very useful . Diploma courses are short term courses of usually one or two year duration that teaches a BDS pass-out the basic skills that will definitely enhance the clinical prospects of the student . At the same time he / she also learns the newer techniques of Implants , Lasers , Endodontics , Orthodontics that is of immense help in clinical practice .In this article major list of institutes ( Govt. & Private ) will be given that provide the diploma courses .

PLEASE NOTE : THE LIST BEING GIVEN HERE IS NOT CONCLUSIVE . IT WILL BE UPDATED REGULARLY .

A warm welcome to all dental students from yours Sincerely Dr.Deb . Dentalorg.com has brought to you regular updates on Army Dental Corps .

Article collected from the experience of the past candidates who appeared for the exam .

I’m writing this article solely to help/guide you guys i.e. Dental Professionals/colleagues , out there who wants to get into the wonderful organization called ARMY DENTAL CORPS, a very vital part of INDIAN ARMY.

It’s a beautiful organization to start with and a fantastic career option for a fresh dental graduate/post graduate while looking onto the current state of dental jobs available and otherwise also in terms of patient exposure, challenging cases in challenging conditions, job satisfaction, financial aspects and etc, etc….

It is the only organization in India right now to provide so many dental jobs in a govt’ sector to dental graduates both UG and PG

How to Get Entry?

It can be through two modes:

(i) SSC(short service commission) or a,

(ii) DPC( Direct Permanent commission).

But due to some reason commissioning are going on for SSC only these days. Of which the procedure is as follows:

Usually it all starts with an advertisement in leading newspapers and electronic media i.e. www.indianarmy.nic.in stating the number of vacancies, format of application, dead lines, phone numbers for enquiry and other relevant information. Mostly in the month of sep-oct each year.

The candidates should read all eligibility crieteria’s carefully before applying and apply in the given format only with all necessary documents neatly attached in a orderwise fashion and make sure it reaches the HQ before due date.

Then wait patiently to get the acknowledgement card due to lot many applications it might take sometime after the due date of applications.

You will get the acknowledgment card signifying that your application has been reached the concerned office and has not to do anything with the interview call.

Then if your name gets shortlisted for the interview ( only for BDS , MDS will surely get a call as per current scenario) you will get a interview letter along with a intimation call, since last year the list has also been displayed on the website i.e. www.indianarmy.nic.in along with the day you’ve been assigned for the interview.

And then be prepared for the interview and on the day please be well dressed in formals (preferably), shoes well polished, tie for gentlemen’s and don’t commit any blunders, show offs like wearing a Indian flag on tie and so on(people do sometimes)

For the interview part, be thorough with the academics part anything to everything can be asked from dentistry and its latest advancements plus they will also judge you on the basis of your personality, the way you talk, the way you dress and so on, some questions can be asked to judge your aptitude also.

Itl be a panel of 8-9 High flying officer ‘s from different specialties, stalwarts in there fields, sitting on a round table, i know this all sounds too much but please be patient and calm during the interview, they are there to select you and judge you and your potential, so remain confident, polite and answer questions wisely take your time don’t just utter anything

Enter the room by asking permission, greet everyone, sit when asked, be to the point in answering, don’t bluff around if you don’t know just say it politely that you don’t ( no one knows everything), speak only the truth while asked don’t make up thing they are smart enough to catch, don’t commit things like i’m here to serve the nation and all, be what you are, then after the interview is over leave when they told you to leave & leave the room while greeting once again.

Like you must have heard “An Officer – A Gentleman”

Read the following Article for more Info on How to face SSB Interview

http://www.dentalorg.com/tips-to-face-the-ssb-interview.html

Then you have to wait till the evening announcement of results, if your name is there then you will be given a form to be filled along with the information about the center/venue for your medical examination which is always on the next following day of interview. Till this point its provisional merit list.

For the medical examination, reach the medical facility on time, empty stomach, then you will be subjected a a complete thorough medical checkup from all medical specialties and in the evening the results will be declared.

Then on the basis of your interview and medical examination, etc the final merit list will be made and the selected candidates based on the number of vacancies will be called for commissioning along with all the information for joining.

And from here the “new life begins with the uniform.”

You will be granted a rank of Capt. in Indian army with all the facilities and perks of an officer along with ALL THE RESPONSIBILITIES and COMMITMENTS involved for the organization.

And that is all in brief about the selection procedure. I wish you guys all the very best for your future

And all those who gonna be selected (definitely 36 Officers this time amongst you people only)

Wish you all a very bright and successful career in Army Dental Corps.

Details and requirements of eligibility for registration must be obtained direct from the GDC. A summary of the different types of registration is provided below. Registration may be full or temporary.

Full Registration

Allows a dentist to practise dentistry in the UK, providing the dentist has the correct visa/immigration status.

Temporary Registration

Allows a dentist to practise dentistry only in selected supervised posts for training, teaching or research purposes. The maximum length of time you can have temporary registration is limited to five years. Temporary registration is not granted for periods of less than three months.

You will need to find out if the GDC recognises your degree for the purposes of temporary registration. You can find this out by checking the list of recognised universities for temporary registration. This list is available by country on the GDC website.

Temporary registration is normally granted for the purpose of postgraduate training, research or teaching in relation to a specific appointment. If an overseas-qualified dentist writes to the GDC to enquire about registration in the UK, the letter from the GDC may state that the person would be eligible for temporary registration providing their papers are in order.

It is important to understand that although you may be eligible for temporary registration, you will not obtain temporary registration until you are successful in obtaining the offer of a post. You cannot work on temporary registration in general or private practice or in community dental service.

Specialist lists

The GDC is the sole competent authority in the UK for the dental specialities. The GDC has responsibility for standards of education and training. The GDC also maintains the UK specialist lists. These can be accessed via the GDC web site or by e-mailing specialist@gdc_uk.org.

The specialist list includes: oral surgery, endodontics, peridontics, prosthodontics, restorative dentistry, dental public health, orthodontics, paediatric, dentistry, oral medicine, oral pathology, dental and maxillofacial radiology, special care dentistry.

Please note: oral and maxillofacial surgery is a medical speciality and requires dual registration both with the GMC and GDC.

If you do not hold full registration with the GDC you may eventually be able to work as a dentist if you pass the ORE and have the correct visa to remain and work in the UK. This ORE examination is held by the GDC and replaced the International Qualifying Examination (IQE).

The ORE is in two parts. Part 1 consists of written papers covering the subjects of:

applied dental science

clinically applied human disease

clinical dentistry

law and ethics

health and safety.

Part 2 consists of a practical examination on:

a dental manikin

an OSCE,

an exam in diagnosis and treatment planning

a medical emergencies exam.

You need to contact the GDC to find out if you are eligible to sit this examination as there is a new requirement to demonstrate that you have had at least 1600 hours of dental clinical experience of treating patients.

The ORE is based in the UK dental curriculum. Candidates are advised to read the GDC document, The First Five Years: A Framework for undergraduate Dental Education. This can be found on the GDC website.

The GDC also provides a list of useful text books. The list comprises of some of the books used in some UK dental schools. You may find that you have used similar text books as part of your undergraduate curriculum. If you live in a large city where there is a university with a dental school, it may be useful to look at the books stocked in branches of medical and dental bookshops. You will then be able to make a judgment as to whether you need to buy or borrow new text books.

It can be difficult studying for ORE on your own. If you contact your local postgraduate dean, you may be able to join an ORE study group/course or be introduced to other dentists also studying for ORE.

Dentists who complete the ORE and have no clinical experience may need to do up to 1 year Dental Foundation Training (DF1) in order to be able to work as a general dental practitioner for the NHS. Success in the ORE does not mean you will automatically secure a DF1 place or a job in the NHS. It has become very difficult to find a DF1 training place as there is a lot of competition from UK and European graduates.

Definition of Prior Clinical Experience

On the GDC website you will see the following advice about per-requirements for entering the ORE:

“The overseas dentist must have 1,600 hours clinical experience where they have personally treated patients in the dental chair. The number of hours of this clinical experience will either be hours spent by the overseas dentist undertaking appropriate investigations and administering dental treatment during their dental degree, during post-qualification experience, or a combination of the two. It could also be undertaken during temporary registration. It will not include time observing other dentists or assisting other dentists/dental students in undertaking diagnosis/treatment planning or provision of treatment.”

Verification of the Prior Clinical Experience

The clinical experience will be verified. The GDC will request signed references from university dental teams for the undergraduate experience and from employers for the post-qualification experience. The employers must provide their registration number. The GDC will reserve the right to undertake spot checks to verify references where appropriate. Affidavits will be accepted in only exceptional circumstances where an overseas dentist has proven refugee or asylum-seeker status.

It is important to be aware that if you arrive in the UK having less than the minimum 1,600 hours of clinical experience and being unable to sit the ORE, you may put yourself in a very difficult situation. Although the GDC website states that you could obtain experience in a post offering temporary registration, you need to be aware that under current circumstances obtaining such a post will be extremely difficult. You should not rely on obtaining such a post in the UK in order to obtain sufficient experience to enter the ORE.

In addition, please check if you have any restrictions on your visa preventing you from applying for training posts. You will not be able to apply for training posts if your visa has restrictions such as-no employment as doctor or dentist in training - or similar wording.

If you know that you have not achieved the 1,600 hours of clinical experience required to enter the ORE, you would be advised to seriously consider obtaining a clinical post in the country where you qualified before coming to the UK.

For any ORE examination queries, please contact the ORE department at the GDC at examsapplication@gdc-uk.org.

THE INFORMATION ON IMMIGRATION FOR NON UK DENTAL GRADUATES

Changes to the Immigration laws to the UK

On the 29 February 2008 a new immigration system was launched. The new points system combines pre-existing work and study routes into the UK into 5 tiers. Points are awarded on workers’ skills to reflect aptitude, age, experience and also the demand for these skills in any given sector.

The five tiers are: TIRE 1, 2, 3 , 4 , 5 .

For dental graduates TIER 5 is crucial .

Tier 5

Youth mobility, temporary workers and Medical Training Initiative (MTI) posts: people allowed to work in the United Kingdom for a limited period of time to satisfy primarily non-economic objectives. The purpose of these posts is to allow an overseas dentist to come to the UK for up to two years, for example, to gain experience in a technique or procedure. At the end of this period, he/she will be required to return to their own country. Please see the section on tier 5 international training fellows for further information.

Dentists who wish to practise in the Republic of Ireland – which is a separate EEA country and not part of the United Kingdom - must register with the Dental Council of Ireland, which has its own procedures and conditions.

How will this affect overseas dentists?

It is important that you check your visa before applying for a post in the UK. You should only apply for a post for which you have the correct visa.

Doctors and dentists who are in the UK by virtue of another immigration category, for example those with leave as a dependent – each specific case would need to be checked to ensure that you can work or train in the UK.

Immigration Regulations for the UK

Senior House Officer (SHO) posts

The SHO post is a training post in UK hospitals. These posts are changing to dental foundation posts. If you have entered the UK on a tier 1 Visa which states that you are not eligible for doctor or dentist training posts, you would not be able to apply for one of these posts. If you have entered the UK on a tier 2 visa you will need to have a job offer. The employers will need to demonstrate that there was no suitably qualified EEA citizen able to accept the post before the post can be offered to an overseas citizen. The employer will be required to sponsor you for the post.

Employer sponsorship is for a specific post and for a specified period of time.

If you are successful and are offered a post, the employer will be your sponsor and issue you with a sponsor number and you will then re-enter the UK to take up the post.

Dental Foundation Years 1 and 2

These are new training posts which will be occupied by newly qualified dental graduates. If you have entered the UK on a tier 1 visa which states that you are not eligible for doctor or dentist training posts, you would not be able to apply for one of these posts.

You will need full registration for a DF1 or DF2 post.

Vocational Trainee

These posts are being replaced by DF1 posts. If you have entered the UK on a tier 1 visa which states that you are not eligible for doctor or dentist training posts, you would not be able to apply for one of these posts.

If you have completed your undergraduate training in dentistry in one of the UK dental schools, and have full registration with the GDC, but you are not an EEA citizen, you would still be able to apply for VT or foundation training. You should contact Chris Franklin at COPDEND regarding visa sponsorship.

You will require to have full registration with the GDC.

Visas

You may need a visa to travel to the UK. You can contact the visa section at embassies and high commissions overseas.
